Born: March 1888 in Great Yarmouth.
The eldest child of George and Eliza Ayers (nee Holmes). Ayers is sometimes spelt Ayres. The family moved to Lowestoft before moving to Filby in 1892, when George was 4 years old. They lived on Yarmouth Road, now Main Road.
In the 1901 census George's father's occupation is given as a blacksmith.
In 1916 George married Mary Ann Cook in Barnstaple. In 1918 she was to marry Thomas Howard.
George joined the Royal Naval Reserve, service number 6377DA and served as a deckhand on H. M. Drifter "G. S. P."
He was drowned following a collision in the English Channel on 2nd February 1917 aged 29 years.
George is remembered at the school and on the memorial at All Saints Church as well as the Chatham Naval Memorial in Kent.
