Christmas Card

Mystery Solved

You may, or may not, recall in the Village Voice of 21st December 2009 the following item:

Thank You

To the person who left the lovely Christmas card to the people of Filby on the village sign.
It is rewarding that the work that is done each week to make the village "A lovely place to be" is appreciated.

We thought you might like to see pictures of the card. Thank you again to the anonymous donor.

35th Anniversary Concert

14th November 2009

stoneangl

Alright! I accept this concert was held in Norwich but Stone Angel is based in Filby and three members live in the village. They rehearse in the Village Club Room and they have given concerts in the church as the picture below shows.

If you missed the concert, and you probably did, you missed a treat with music from their first 'gig' in Great Yarmouth right up to date.

If you were there and would like to submit a review, or to add your thoughts, please email the Webmaster from the link at the bottom of the page.

Coffee Morning - Update

14th November 2009

We held a coffee morning at Filby Church from 10.00 to 12.00 on Saturday 14th November 2009 in aid of the 'Carla Saunders Garden Appeal - Palliative Care East'.

Despite the dreadful weather, with storm force winds, driving rain and even some thunder and lightening, a number of hardy souls turned out to support the event and £300 was raised in support of the appeal.

Special mention should be made of Tremaine Saunders who ran from his home in Bradwell to Filby church, through the inclement weather, to be greeted by his children, Kyle and Star, and his mother in law, Gladys, and helpers and supporters of the appeal.

Many thanks to everyone involved.

Money Changes Hands in Filby

9th October 2009

Money, taken at Filby’s recent August Bank Holiday Weekend activities, changed hands at the village’s Club Room, on the evening of Friday 9th October.

Members of Filby’s Playing Field Committee met to receive a cheque for £630 from representatives of Norfolk Broads Lions' Club. This donation to the village’s New Community Centre Fund was made from the proceeds of the Lions’ food and bar sales at events over that weekend.

Voices from the Past

New for 2010

On 20th October 2009, we started publishing a weekly "Filby News" bulletin on the Village Voice page.

Then we got to wondering what our forebears considered worthy of record and what they were doing one hundred and twenty years ago. This page is the result. From in January 2010 we have published, month by month, the Victorian equivalent of Village Voice starting with January 1890.

Church Hall, Church Lane

Built in the 1930s, now requires substantial refurbishment.

The future of this building is uncertain and fund raising for a new community centre, to be sited on the Playing Field, is progressing despite our application for Lottery funding being rejected.

Clubroom

This building is a bit special as it is one of the last two 'clay lump' structures in the village.
