Olympic Torch
The Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Filby in the Morning on Thursday 5th July. Only 1018 communities have been picked in the UK, and we are proud to be chosen. Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
At a packed meeting on Monday night, in the Clubroom, the framework for Filby's Diamond Jubilee celebrations was planned. Our celebrations will take place on Monday 4th June 2012 on Filby Playing Field. It is proposed to have a children's party in the afternoon, with games, tug of war and possibly a rounders game. In the evening we are having an open air picnic with people bringing their own food and drink and listening to local groups. The beacon will then be lit between 10pm and 10.30pm. Some sort of commemorative mug or coin will be presented to all children present. More detail in the New Year. For more information or offers of help contact Adrian on 01493 369250

The auction held on Friday 28th October at the playing field raised £859 for New Hall funds. Thanks to everybody who gave items and everyone who helped and attended. A special thanks to Brian Prime who came up with the idea and John Baldry and Victor Tungate for helping the evening run smoothly.

Remembrance Sunday
At 10am a wreath will be laid at the FEPOW Memorial on the Pound, this will be followed by an act of Remembrance at 11am at the War Memorial in the Church Yard, followed by a service of Morning Prayer in the Church. A Service will then be held at 12.30pm at the FEPOW Memorial on Marine Parade Great Yarmouth.

Great news this week that Filby is one of the 1018 locations on the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Filby will be visited on Thursday 5th July 2012, there will be more details to follow, but preliminary ideas can be talked about on the Jubilee meeting on Monday 21st November 7pm in the Clubroom.

Filby was awarded a Gold in Yarmouth in Bloom, a gold in Anglia in Bloom and the Best Kept village, and a Gold in Britain in Bloom. Filby Post office also were awarded gold in Yarmouth and Anglia, and won the Best Commercial premises. Work continues on Saturday mornings, making Filby a great place to be.

Saturday 24th September 2pm in the Clubroom. Proceeds will go towards purchasing equipment for the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. This would allow patients with abnormal or rapid heart rhythms to receive treatment locally rather than travel to Papworth Hospital, over 70 miles away. This appeal is called Sparks4Hearts. Clothes, bric a brac, books etc. can be brought to the Clubroom from 10am- 12 Midday. For more information call Sue on 369291 or Lesley on 369536.

Road Closure
The road is only closed between 7.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday. At Weekends and after 5pm it is open as usual. During the closure times access to residents and businesses will be maintained.

At the award ceremony in Colchester, attended by Derek Nicker and David Thompson, Filby won the Best Kept Village in East Anglia, with a Gold Medal, and Filby Post Office won the Best Commercial Premises. The allotments also got a nomination in the Grow Your Own catagory. This is a good result to take to Scotland on the 25th September, when Britain in Bloom results are announced.

Saturday 24th September in the Clubroom, in aid of Sparks4Hearts, enabling equipment to be purchased at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital for people with abnormal or rapid heart rhythms. No service at Filby this week, but there is a Holiday Club celebration service at Runham at 10.30am, all welcome.
August Bank Holiday Weekend
Events start Friday night with a Bingo in the Marquee at 7.30pm, there are some great prizes to be won.
On Saturday 27th at 7.30pm, there is a Norfolk Nite of Squit and Music, with Danny Platton and Pat Nearney.
On Sunday 28th we have a Tabletop and Carboot Sale at 9am. In the evening at 7.30pm there is a 50's night with DJ Rockin Roland of the Starfighter RNR Club.
On Monday, we have our Annual Fete at 1.30pm, with Rob Chandler of Heart Radio live on stage. Finally at 8pm we are setting light to a Pirate Ship, followed by a Finale Firework Display. Bar and Food available all over the weekend.

Photographs and documents of Filby in the past, will be on display in the Clubroom over the Bank Holiday 10am-4pm. Come along and help add to this ever growing collection with any knowledge you have. Contact Keith or Lesley on 01493 369536.

The Britain in Bloom Judges will visit Filby on Tuesday 2nd August at 4pm. Please make sure we are looking our best.
August Bank Holiday Fete
All starts on Friday 26th August at 7.30pm with a Bingo.
On Saturday 27th August at 7.30pm we have a "Norfolk night of Squit and Music".
On Sunday 28th August at 9am we have a table top and carboot sale and at 7.30pm there is a "Dreamboat and Petticoats" 50's night.
On Monday 29th August 1.30pm is the 57th Annual Grand Fete with Rob Chandler of Heart Radio. At 8pm we are lighting a Pirate ship, followed by the Grand Finale Firework Display. We would like as many people as possible to come along dressed as pirates.

Open Gardens Weekend
Thanks to everyone who helped in any way, and everyone who visited. Despite the weather, we had a good turn out on the Sunday. Thanks to everyone who opened their gardens, the financial report should be out next week, as there are still some small amounts to come in.
Judging.
The Anglia in Bloom judges visited last Thursday, everything went well and the school put on a marvellous show. The next big date is Tuesday 4th August, when the Britain in Bloom judges visit.

Open Gardens Weekend
This weekend 16th/17th July 10am-4pm. Maps are available from the Post Office or the Playing Field. The cost is £2.50 per person. As well as some great gardens to see in this award winning village, there is a flower festival in the clubroom, along with a photo exhibition of Filby People Remembered. The community orchard and allotments are well worth seeing. In the Church our heritage is being celebrated with the 400th anniversary of the King James version of the Bible, refreshments, lunches, tombola, film, music, readings and an art exhibition. On the Sunday at 4pm a special celebration service in traditional 1662 worship, all welcome. Car parking for the weekend is on the playing field along with refreshments and toilets.

New Hall Update
A £13,000 grant has been secured from the NRCC, thanks to work carried out by Peter Chapman. Also this week the main Lottery application has been submitted, and we should know in 20 days if we have passed phase one.
