Last week's Jumble Sale raised £376 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, thanks to everyone who supported and donated. The next Jumble will be in March for Alzheimers Research. The total raised this year for jumble sales is £1179.
Christmas Parcels
All the groceries that were on display for the Harvest Festival were taken to the Salvation Army to be given to families in need at Christmas. Thanks to the school and church who gave the items.

Remembrance Sunday
At 10am a wreath will be laid on the FEPOW Memorial on the Pound. At 10.55am an act of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial at the Church, followed by Morning Prayer in the Church. At 12.30 a service will take place at the Far East Prisoner of War Memorial on Marine Parade Great Yarmouth.
Fireworks
Due to the weather (32mm of non stop rain) and the road closure due to flooding our annual firework was postponed. The new date is Sunday December 9th on Filby Playing Field, gates open at 5pm. This coincides nicely with our Christmas Fayre and Christmas Tree festival which takes place in the Clubroom 2pm-5pm on the same day. Come along to the Fayre, pick up a bargain, enjoy the decorated trees and meet Santa in his grotto.

Over 50 people attended the supper, after which Colin Smith gave a humorous talk on his working life from the age of 15 to the present day. Margaret Crouch spoke about her recollections of Humphry Walpole who played the organ at the Church for over 50 years and taught Margaret to play the piano. £291 was raised for the Humphrey Walpole Memorial Fund.

Filby picked up a Silver Gilt Award in Guernsey on Saturday, Thanks to Derek and Caroline Nicker for representing Filby at these National awards. With all the results now in a meeting will be called shortly to plan for 2013.

Filby in Bloom
Filby won the Best Small Village in East Anglia with a Gold Medal at the Award ceremony at St Ives on Tuesday. We are now awaiting the Britain in Bloom results on 5th October in Guernsey. In the mean time work continues with watering and we have secured 450 trees from the Woodlands Trust commemorating the Queen's Jubilee.

New Community Centre
You will know our first submission for a grant from the BIG lottery was unsuccessful. We have been preparing a second attempt but were told recently of changes to their rules. In order to comply with these changes, we must conduct another village survey. Residents will be receiving Survey forms shortly. An accompanying letter will explain arrangements for their return. We need a good response as this may be our last chance at getting a grant for the foreseeable future. Thank you in anticipation of your help.

On Sunday 19th August, the Bowls Club held the Annual BBQ in memory of Terry Payne, the trophy this year was won by Dave Morley. Thirty members then enjoyed a social evening and fun quiz at the Fox and Hounds and a lovely buffet provided by licensees Liz and Chris. The ladies singles was won by Jean Rose, the gentlemens singles trophy by Peter Burman and the doubles was won by Beryl Payne and Peter Burman. The trophies were presented by chair person Jean Rose.

In the Clubroom throughout the weekend there is a photo exhibition of past celebrations in Filby, including the recent Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Torch relay. Come and see all the torch relay through Filby on film plus, on Monday afternoon, have your photo taken with an Olympic Torch.

Church News
No service at Filby this Sunday, but there is a Joint Holy Communion at 10.30am at Fleggburgh, all welcome.
Concert
Helen Ashton, entertained over fifty people on Friday in the Church, combined with the preview of the flower festival. Helen sang some old favourites such as «Evergreen» and «Roses are Red». A buffet with wine or juice was enjoyed. Mary Hart gave a vote of thanks and presented flowers to Helen, £205 was raised.
Flower Festival
Thirty two flower arrangements with the theme of «Hymns Ancient and Modern» decorated the Church. The School and Messy Church also took part in the displays. Great imagination went into the arrangements with one which had knitted caterpillars, bees and birds incorporated with flowers. A steady stream of visitors called in for lunch and £610.91 was raised.
Open Gardens Weekend
A big thank you to everyone who opened their garden or helped in any way in the tearooms, in the church or in the 5th Annual Photographic Exhibition. Good weather helped and we had a steady stream of visitors both days. With the concert, flower festival and open gardens £1602 was raised which will be equally split between the Church, Filby New Hall Fund and Filby in Bloom, each receiving £534.
Jumble Sale
Saturday 8th September at Fleggburgh. Lesley 369536 and Sue 369291 are always ready to accept or collect anything sellable. Proceeds to the Humphrey Walpole Memorial Fund.

Open Gardens Weekend
This weekend 14th and 15thJuly 10am-4pm, come and see this Gold Award Britain in Bloom winning village and much more. Parking and toilets are at the Playing Field along with refreshments. In the Clubroom the 5thAnnual Photographic Exhibition is to be held. The main display will be Filby People in 1911, those who were living here at the time of the 1911 census and their houses. Also featured will be "Filby Celebrates", as well as past celebrations, a selection of pictures of the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch relay will be displayed. A giant garage sale is also taking place at Laburnum Cottage opposite the Post Office 10am onwards on both Saturday and Sunday.

We meet every Tuesday at 10am in the Clubroom covering a wide spectrum of using a computer. After a few slow weeks our internet connection speed is now back up and running at a good speed.
