On Sunday 30th June we are encouraging everyone to find their place in the church community by trying a new way of doing church.
You are invited to cafe church, come when you can and leave when you like. Join us for breakfast or coffee or a chat or just read a newspaper. Try our church trail to explore the beautiful building. Spend some time in our quiet prayer zone, ask for someone to pray for you. Take part in one of the acts of worship in different styles.

10.30am Church trail, prayer zone, someone available to pray with you, chat time, coffee and donuts.

The Filby Collection is showing its collection of wedding photographs in the clubroom each day from 10am to 4pm. The collection has grown and developed since it was first displayed, in the church, 4 years ago.

The village is being judged on Wednesday 10th July 10am for Anglia in Bloom, and Monday 5th August 9.30am for Britain in Bloom.
59th Annual Fete
Monday 26th August 1pm on Filby Playing field. If you would like to bring a stall or attraction or ride call Adrian on 01493 369250. The day rounds off with a Grand Finale Firework display at 8pm.

Last Sunday was the Coronation Service, Vivien Moore spoke about her memories of the day, and read out some facts of what went on behind the scenes before the Queen was crowned. The tables were decorated in red, white and blue and people attending enjoyed a bring and share lunch. The Church was also decorated in
patriotic colours and floral arrangements.

This Sunday is Rogation Sunday and the Archdeacon of Norfolk, the Ven Stephen Betts, will take Holy Communion at 9am. Local group Stoneangel recently performed at Filby Church, a variety of folk songs and music were played, including a song by Shinny Crowe who wrote songs at the turn of the last century. The Parochial Church Council handed over a cheque for £700 to the New Village Hall Fund.

In Bloom
Working during the week as well as Saturday, we are catching up with pricking out the bedding and basket plants. The wild flowers are growing well and we would encourage anyone to grow edible flowers and vegetables as part of our "Filby feeds itself" campaign.

Playing Field AGM
This was held on Monday 18th March in the Clubroom. David Thompson was re elected Chairman, Joy Baldry Secretary/ treasurer and Adrian Thompson Vice Chairman. The Playing Field fund at the moment stands at £130,850, mainly invested in Bonds ready for the New Hall, when sufficient money is raised. The hire rates for all clubs using the Hall and field will remain the same for the forthcoming year. The fete this year is on Monday 26th August and we would like to see as many outside stalls and organisations present, helping make this a great afternoon. The day will be rounded off with a bonfire and firework display.
Filby in Bloom
A new venture this year is the creation of wild flower areas. Derek Nicker has researched the idea and we have purchased enough seed to cover 130 square metres. As the weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment, we are growing the seeds in trays, and will roll them like turf, when the time is right.

Bird boxes
Thanks to Percy Hudson, who made the boxes and Les Futter and Ken Saul who placed the boxes around the village. These will now be monitored for activity, not only helping our wildlife but a good news story for our Britain in Bloom entry.
Britain in Bloom Seminar
Thanks to Caroline and Derek Nicker for attending the Britain in Bloom Seminar last week. A Filby in Bloom meeting will shortly be called to plan in detail for 2013. There seems at the moment to be an emphasis on wildflower areas and grow your own.

Defibrillator Training
In the event of an emergency after dialling 999 the defibrillator is available 24/7 at Filby Post Office. Members of the Post Office staff, playing field committee and bowls club are taking basic training on CPR and the use of the machine on Saturday 9th February in the Clubroom.

The last Bingo raised £75 for Hall Funds. Thanks to Paddy Hudson for co-ordinating the prizes and everyone who attended. The next Bingo is Friday 8th February 7.30pm in the Clubroom.
In Bloom Christmas Quiz
Two people scored a maximum of 100%: Fay Kyriacou and Jane Evans. Five people scored 99%: Mrs McDonald, Samantha Neeve, Lesley Thain, Winnie Forsdike and Mrs P Green. and one person scoring 98%: Laura Orbash. Thanks to everyone who supported the Quiz and Derek Nicker for setting the questions. £80 raised for in bloom funds.
Bird Boxes
As part of our 2013 entry Percy Hudson has made a number of bird boxes. These are going to be put up and monitored through the village by Kenny Saul and Les Futter. In addition to this the Broads Authority will be erecting and monitoring Barn Owl and Kestrel Boxes.
Filby School
Filby school are looking for a community governor. If you are interested call the Head Teacher on 369241 or Chair of Governors: Graham Steel on 368210.
Concert
Local group Stone Angel will be appearing in the Church on March 23rd at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8.50 including a glass of wine and a light buffet. Tickets available from PCC members, Filby Post Office or on the door. Proceeds to the New Hall Fund on the Playing Field.
Jumble Sale
Saturday 9th March 2pm at Fleggburgh Village Hall. Money raised to Great Yarmouth Alzheimers Society call Lesley 369536 or Sue 369291 for more details.
Clothes Collection
Saturday 26th January 10am onwards. Please leave any clothes, shoes or handbags near your gate for collection, or call Adrian on 01493 369250 for collection any time, proceeds to the New Hall Fund.
Restaurant Quiz
Thanks to Jenny Barnes and the team at Filby Bridge for this month's Quiz. £220 was raised for in-Bloom Funds.

The service this Sunday is Holy Communion at 10.30am. At 3pm there is a Plough Sunday service at 3pm at Winsford Hall Farm Stokesby.
